What and how we treat?
Breast cancer
The Oncology Center conducts a combined treatment for patients with breast cancer. Patients are examined and treated by a team of highly qualified specialists from various areas of oncology. Depending on the advancement of the disease, patients are treated surgically or undergo chemotherapy, hormonotherapy or radiotherapy. Depending on the case, these methods are applied in various sequences. If the state of advancement of the disease allows, operations are conducted, which save the breast despite of diagnosed malignant neoplasm. Patients, in whom amputation of the breast proved necessary, are offered breast reconstruction surgery. The disease in a state of dissemination (metastases to bone) can be treated with radioactive isotopes.
Neoplasms in the area of the head and neck
The Oncology Centre specializes in combined treatments for neoplasms of the area of the head and neck i.e. neoplasms located in the larynx, oral cavity, salivary glands, ear and eye socket. A specialized team of surgeons conducts operative and reconstructive procedures with the application of micro-surgery techniques, so, that damage is minimalised with a positive cosmetic effect. Patients undergo radiotherapy according to the most modern schemas, if necessary non-conventional techniques are applied. Patients are under the continuous control of the specialists, who if necessary, will also apply chemotherapy.
Alimentary tract neoplasms
In the modern Oncology Institute’s endoscope laboratory are performed very detailed oesophagus, stomach, duodendum, colon and rectum diagnostics. Detected early neoplasm can be removed using an endoscope, without surgery. In other cases combined therapy, surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, is conducted to radically heal the disease and minimize any likely unfavourable consequences due to the treatment. For example, in patients with rectum cancer, thanks to the application of radiotherapy and the stapler technique it is often possible to avoid the use of an artificial rectum. We make use of a combined treatment for patients with pancreas and liver neoplasms. In treating metastases in liver, apart from surgery and radiotherapy, we use the thermoablation method, which damages changes in the liver via heat energy.
Carcinoma thyroid
Gliwice is the biggest and oldest center for the treatment of Carcinoma Thyroid in Poland. It has a modern and friendly department for radioactive iodine therapy, which also is used for hyperthyroidism treatment. The Carcinoma Thyroid is treated in cooperation with a team of highly experienced surgeon-oncologists. Even in those patients, who already have metastases, there is a chance of a full recovery, provided that the cancer was diagnosed early enough.
Lung neoplasm
In patients with lung cancer /neoplasm, the Oncology Institute applies modern radiation therapy techniques, which limits the risk of damage to other chest organs. In patients, in whom it is necessary, chemotherapy is applied, or both methods are combined (radiochemotherapy), to maximize the healing possibility.
Brain tumors
In co-operation with neurosurgery Clinics we apply the most modern techniques of stereotactic radiosurgery, which does not damage healthy brain tissue. We also treat brain tumors with brachytherapy. We co-operate with Neurosurgery Clinics to ensure an optimal level of treatment to all patients.
Neoplasms of the female reproductive organs
The Oncology Centre conducts complementary treatment for patients with neoplasms of the uterus, ovaries, vagina and vulva, in co-operation with gynecology clinics. Patients are supplementary treated with rays, with the application of radiotherapy and brachytherapy. Treatment is conducted according to international standards. In some cases patients undergo systemic treatment (chemotherapy). We perform radical surgeries for ovary cancer, and patients undergo combined treatments, so that the optimal therapy chances for healing are high.
Neoplasms of the male reproductive organs
The treatment of patients with testicular neoplasms is by combined therapy. The correct application of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery allows for the full recovery of a considerable group of patients, part of whom have the chance to be able to have children. We also conduct combined therapy for patients with neoplasms in other reproductive organs.
Prostatic gland cancer
In co-operation with Urology Clinics we apply radical and complementary radiotherapy in cases of prostatic gland cancer with the aid of the most modern apparatus and treatment schemas, which minimize the discomforts connected with the side effects of irradiation of healthy tissues. Metastases of prostatic gland cancer in bones are treated with radioactive isotopes.
Neoplasms of the urinary system
A team of specialists, in the co-operation with urology clinics, conduct complementary treatments with rays and/or chemotherapy for patients with kidney and urinary bladder neoplasms. After the treatment, patients are under regular control. In case of kidney cancer radical surgery of resection of the organ is performed in the Oncologic Surgery Clinic
Melanomas and skin neoplasms
We conduct diagnostics and treatment for neoplastic skin changes. Cutting biopsy and histopatologic tests allow certain diagnosis of the malignant neoplasm and its radical treatment. Plastic surgery techniques, applied by us, allow patients to undergo therapy with the best cosmetic results, which is particularly important in the case of changes located in the area of face.
Part of the neoplasm is treated with radiotherapy: independent or supplementary from surgery. In some patients, melanoma chemotherapy or advanced methods of immunologic therapy are applied.
Malignant granulomatosis and non-Hodkin lymphomas
The team of experienced oncologists conducts treatment for patients with lymphomas, including malignant granulomatosis and other forms of lymphomas. The most modern diagnostics, present standards of chemotherapy and the application of methods, which support the treatment, ensure the best conditions for the recovery for patients
Sarcomas of soft tissues
The only chance to heal these rare and varied neoplasms is to correctly diagnose and to properly conduct a combined treatment. The team of radiotherapeutists and chemotherapeutists and surgeons plan and perform treatment individually selected for each case. The application of contact radiotherapy (so called brachytherapy) allows, in part, for patients to avoid the amputation of a limb i.e. avoid or considerably limit crippling.
