About the Award
Management of the Maria Skłodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology, Gliwice Branch, being aware of the benefits of having the HR Excellence in Research logo, made efforts to implement the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the recruitment of researchers in the Institute.
What is the HR Excellence award?
The HR Excellence in Research distinction is awarded to those institutions that implement Strategy for increasing the attractiveness of work and career development of researchers (The Human Resources Strategy for Researchers – HRS4R), and adhere to the principles and guidelines set out in the European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.
Research units that implement the HRS4R Strategy undertake to ensure favorable working conditions, development, career, mobility and transparent recruitment processes for researchers, thus contributing to increasing the competitiveness of the European Research Area (ERA) and the attractiveness of the EU science systems in global scale.
Benefits of having the HR Excellence in Research award
The award by a scientific unit is rewarded, among others, by in international EC grant competitions (such as Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe), national NCN and NCBiR grant competitions and other science funding programs.
Other benefits for the NIO-PIB in Gliwice resulting from the HR logo:
prestige and distinction for the Institute as an institution that creates the best working conditions for scientists in the implementation of scientific or research and development (R&D) activities, in accordance with European standards;
increase the attractiveness of employment at the Institute, which creates a friendly research environment and respects transparent rules for recruiting employees.
The HR logo is a quality mark for institutions by confirming compliance with ethical standards in professional relations and in conducting scientific research.

January 13, 2020 - Prof. Krzysztof Składowski, M.D., Ph.D, Director of the Oncology Centre – Institute
Branch in Gliwice signs a declaration of support for the principles and recommendations adopted in the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.

January 20, 2020 - The European Commission accepts the declaration of support sent by the NIO-PIB in Gliwice and from that moment the process of preparing application documents begins.
March 17, 2020 - Prof. Krzysztof Składowski, M.D., Ph.D appoints a Working Team for the preparation of documents necessary to obtain the HR Excellence award and a Steering Committee supervising the Team.
From April to June 2020 - the current internal regulations and legal acts are reviewed and compared with the recommendations contained in the European Charter for Researchers and the Code.
Work is also underway on the preparation of the content of the questionnaire for research workers of the MSCN RIO in Gliwice, aimed at obtaining opinions on the working conditions at the MSCN RIO in Gliwice.
October 6, 2020 - a meeting of the Working Team takes place, during which a discussion on the content of the questionnaire regarding the consistency of the functioning of the MSCN RIO in Gliwice with the individual provisions of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers is started.
January 2021 - a questionnaire is carried out whether and to what extent at the National Institute of Maria Skłodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology, the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers are implemented.

European Charter for Researchers
The European Charter for Researchers was issued in 2005 as a recommendation of the European Commission addressed to scientists, employers and research funders operating in the public and private sectors in the EU Member States.
OTM-R
OTM-R is open, transparent and merit-based recruitment. The OTM-R package is a set of ready-made tools to be implemented in universities and research and development institutions in order to ensure open, transparent recruitment based on the candidate's qualifications.
OTM-R is one of the key aspects ensuring the availability and openness of the labor market for researchers in the European Union.

HRS4R Strategy at the MSCN-RIO in Gliwice
HRS4R strategy at the Maria Skłodowskiej-Curie - the National Research Institute of Oncology, Gliwice branch , taking into account the principles set out in the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, was based on an internal analysis of the compliance of the procedures and principles of the institute's operation with the principles of the Charter and Code and the results of a survey conducted among the employees of the MSCN-RIO in Gliwice conducting research activities.
The strategy was developed by an appointed working team.
